Record-setting swimmer Michael Phelps has satisfied some of his hunger for Americana since returning to the United States from his Olympic triumphs in China but has one special rendezvous he is looking forward to.Phelps, who touched down on Wednesday after winning an unparalleled eight gold medals in the pool in Beijing, has already chatted with Tiger Woods, done the rounds of morning TV chat shows and sampled some quintessential cuisine.

“It’s a good feeling to be back on American soil,” Phelps said on Thursday at a presentation of a grant to fund a Manhattan YMCA’s second grade swimming program, where every movement of the 14-time gold medalist in the pool brought choruses of “ooh’s” and “ah’s” from the children in the water. Phelps appeared at the YMCA to present a cheque of $20,000 from Visa to support youth swimming programs.Phelps has already done some hobnobbing, had his photographic portrait hung in the National Gallery and has more of the celebrity life lined up.

“I was at the launch of Tiger’s new (video golf) game last night. Being able to talk to him just for a little bit. He was saying how proud he was, congratulations,” said Phelps, who joked about how he could use lessons to help his golf.A week from Saturday he will host the season-opening edition of the Saturday Night Live TV comedy show. “It’s going to be interesting. I hope I’m literally not a fish out of water on that one,” said Phelps. “I’m already getting a hard time from some of my friends about it.”Phelps is also set to make a cameo appearance in the hit TV series ‘Entourage’, where he will be seen with Kevin Connolly.The Olympic swimmer said he was looking forward to getting home. “Once I get back to Baltimore I want to see my dog. I miss the little guy,” Phelps said about his white and black English bulldog named Herman, who he has not seen in a few months. “I’m just hoping he remembers me when I see him.”

1.Michael Phelps: Michael Phelps domination in the pool brought comparisons to former swimming great Mark Spitz, who won seven gold medals in the 1972 Summer Olympics, a world record.Phelps tied Mark Spitz’s record of four gold medals won in single person events. Phelps had the chance to break Spitz’s record of 7 total gold medals in the 2004 Athens Olympics by competing in eight swimming events (5 of which were individual events): the 200 m freestyle, the 100 m butterfly, the 200 m butterfly, the 200 m individual medley, the 400 m individual medley, the 4×100 m freestyle relay, 4×200 m freestyle relay, and the 4×100 m medley relay.However, his 4×100 m freestyle relay team only won the bronze medal, and he personally placed for bronze in the 200 m freestyle.Thus, he fell short of that record. However, he did win eight medals in one Olympics, a feat only achieved by Alexander Dityatin, a gymnast, in the 1980.

2.Cathy Freeman: Cathy Freeman had the honour to light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony of the Games. She symbolised the desire to reconcile the white and Aboriginal populations of Australia.Ten days later, she won the 400m final which was a clear victory before an ecstatic crowd. Freeman’s family was poor and, like many Australian Aboriginals, suffered discrimination from white Australians. Once, after winning many races at a primary school competition, Cathy, who wasn’t given a trophy, had to watch as the white girls she had beaten received trophies.Her family worked hard to raise the money Cathy needed to take her to competitions in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

3.Naim Suleymanoglu: Naim Suleymanoglu was born to Turkish parents living in Bulgaria. He was nicknamed Pocket Hercules as he was only 1.47m tall and he was the second of only seven lifters to clean and jerk three times their bodyweight. He missed the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984 as Bulgaria joined the Soviet Union’s boycott of the Games.He was almost a victim of politics when the Communist regime in Bulgaria forced its Turkish minority to adopt Bulgarian names. He was known as Naum Shalamanov. He defected in 1986 to Turkey. There was also a battle over which country he would represent in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.The Bulgarian government demanded and received $1,000,000 from Turkey to allow him to compete for Turkey. He won the featherweight gold in Seoul and repeated his triumph in 1992. In between he also retired briefly. When he went to Atlanta for the 1996 Games, it is safe to say that there was considerable pressure on him. After all, no weightlifter in history had won three successive gold medals. He engaged in a tremendous duel with Valerios Leonidis of Greece to clinch his third gold medal. And he did in style. By breaking his own world record.

4.Hassiba Boulmerka: The path to Hassiba’s victory in 1992 Olympics in Barcelona was charted in 1991 in Tokyo. In the Japanese capital, Hassiba had scored a stunning victory in the 1500m run at the World Athletics Championships.She returned to Algiers and was hailed as a national heroine and a role model for all Arab women who wanted to break away from their conservative and restrictive roles. However, she was also condemned by Islamic fundamentalists. That mean she was forced to move to Europe to train. No one in the wide world expected Hassiba to win in Barcelona.Especially after the manner in which Russia’s Lyudmila Rogacheva set a torrid pace and burned away the rest of the field. But two hundred metres from the finish, Hassiba drove past Rogacheva and cruised to victory. Hassiba’s success was regarded across the globe as the perfect answer to Muslim fundamentalists who had sought to restrict women from taking part in sport.

On Wednesday when Vijender singh entered into semi-finals,one more medal was secured in the crown of India.After this every Indian pray to god so that Vijender Singh converts this bronze into silver or gold.But today this hope of getting gold and silver died today,when Vijender Singh lost today’s semifinal to Cuban Emilio Correa Bayeaux in a closely contested semi-final at the Workers Gymnasium.But still we Indians are happy with Vijender Sigh performance and once again another Indian make pride of his nation.This is the first boxing medal for India in the history of Olympics.

Now lets take a look at the today’s semifinal, Emilio, a two-time Pan-American Champion, was clearly the better boxer on view with his quick footwork and reach. To
Vijender’s credit, he fought gallantly to carry the bout right into the fourth round, though the portents were clear that the Cuban had the edge by the end of the third round.Vijender, who conceded a 0-2 lead in the first round, fought back brilliantly in the second round to reduce the margin to 3-4. But Emilio came back strongly in the third round and scored three points to take a big lead of 7-3.In the fourth and last round, Vijender tried his best, but the Cuban made sure he stayed in the lead with his passive movements. A warning to the Cuban fetched the Indian two more points, but Vijender could not really launch himself and went down 5-8.
Vijender’s bronze is the third medal in what turned out to be the best Olympics for India. Last week shooter Abhinav Bindra gave the country its first ever individual gold while wrestler Sushil Kumar won the bronze Wednesday.

Now its a high time for every Indian,another Indian at Beijing Olympics prove that Indians can do any thing.Now this time Sushil Kumar that won bronze medal at Beijing Olympics in men’s 66kg freestyle category. Sushil’s campaign seemed nearly over when he lost his first round battle against eventual silver medallist Andriy Stadnik but repechage provided him a ray of hope and the Indian proved simply irresistible as he beat three grapplers on the trot to win the bronze. Down in the dumps after his opening round defeat, Sushil came up with an incredible show, beating Doug Schwab (USA), Albert Batyrov (Belarus) and finally the losing semi-finalist Leonid Spiridonov (Kazakhstan) in the repechage rounds to earn his slice of history.

Sushil thus became the second Indian wrestler after K D Jadhav who won a bronze in the 1952 Helsinki Games to win an Olympic medal.Incidentally, in the 2006 Doha Asian Games also, Sushil had beaten Leonid to win the bronze.Against Leonid, Sushil grabbed early initiative by scoring two technical points that proved decisive in the end.Though the Kazakh grappler scored one in the second period and managed to thwart Sushil, the Indian proved his superiority again in the third period and eventually prevailed 3-2 to trigger frenzied celebration among the Indians present at the Chinese Agricultural University.

Now the day comes for which every fan of Michael Phelps and every American was waiting.Michael Phelps set the new world record in the history of Olympics by winning 8 gold medals in a single Olympic.Now from today onwards, Sunday 17th August, is remembered as the day of every American,day of every Olympic games fan and finally the day of Michael Phelps.Michael Phelps became the first competitor in the history of the Olympics to win eight gold medals at single Games,and surpassing the record set by fellow US swimmer Mark Spitz 36 years ago. With the United States’ world record-setting victory in the men’s 4×100m medley relay, which closed the swimming competition at the Water Cube, Phelps broke the record Spitz set in Munich in 1972, and which was once thought to be unassailable. Now the Phelps total score of gold medal is 14,6 in Athens Olympics and 8 in the Beijing Olympics. His 14 career gold medals are the most of any Olympian, with his nearest rivals Spitz, athletes Carl Lewis and Paavo Nurmi and Gymnast Larysa Latynina – who all won nine in their careers.At the age of 23, Phelps has set a record for the total number of medals won by a male Olympian with 16.Now only only Latynina’s 18 career medals exceed Phelps’s total.

After winning the relay race Phelps said,”I wanted to do something no one else had done in sport. This goes hand-in-hand with my goal of changing the sport of swimming”. Phelps had opened the swimming competition with a victory in the first event, the 400m individual medley, and went on to win the 200m medley, 100m and 200m butterfly, 200m freestyle and both the 4×100m and 4×200m freestyle relays.
Seven of his golds – including the first six – all came with world records, while his seventh, in the 100m butterfly, was by a margin of just one one-hundredth of a second.On his seventh event when he was not succeeded in setting the world record he said,”It has been from getting my hand on the wall and winning by one one-hundredth to doing my best times in every event”.n Athens four years ago, Phelps won six gold medals (100m and 200m butterfly, 200 and 400m individual medley, 4×200m freestyle relay and 4×100m medley relay), and two bronze (200m free and 4×100m free relay).

Today 16th August is the day that no body is going to forget in their life or in the history of Olympics.In the 100 m race,Usain Bolt of Jamaica won the men’s title on Saturday in a new world record time of 9.69 seconds.We can say this victory as the biggest event of Olympics-2008 after the opening ceremony of Olympics.This 21 year old guy,Usain Bolt becomes the first Jamaican to win the Olympic 100m crown – beat home Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago (9.89secs) while Walter Dix of the United States was third in a time of 9.91 seconds.

On the other hand,former world record holder Asafa Powell came fifth as six of the eight finalists finished under 10 seconds, a record for the Olympic final, which also equalled the 1991 world final in Tokyo when six men also finished under the 10 second barrier.After winning the race Bolt said “I came here just to win and I did just that. I didn’t even know I’d broken the world record until I did my victory lap”.Now he is mainly concentrating on my two races coming up that is of 100 and 200m double. Meanwhile Dix, also an Olympic debutant, came on strong in the final metres to overhaul Powell, who lost out on fourth place to surprise package Churandy Martina of the Dutch Antilles.Powell admitted he had run out of steam.”My legs died on me. I’m not sure what happened. I’m happy for Usain. I really wanted to get that gold medal. I wasn’t ready for the big stage yet,” he said.

Now the moment came for which every one is waiting,Michael Phelps succeeded in winning his 7th gold medal.On Saturday, Michael Phelps won his 7th gold medal at Beijing Olympics with a defiant victory in the men’s 100m butterfly.With this medal Michael Phelps equals the record of winning seven gold medal at one Olympics. Phelps, seventh at the turn, snatched victory by one-hundredth of a second over Serbia’s Milorad Cavic, pounding the water in triumph and screaming with delight when he realized the enormity of his achievement.After winning the race Phelps said “I feel a little bit of everything – relief, excitement, everything.I had to take my goggles off to make sure the ‘1′ was next to my name.”

The 23-year-old American phenomenon, who had appeared invincible as he set six world records in winning his first six golds at the Water Cube, displayed the sheer force of his will as he made up a deficit of more than half a second in the final lap to win in 50.58sec with Cavic second in 50.59. The two stood stock still and staring until the starter called them onto the blocks, but at the finish it was Cavic who blinked, missing out on gold in 50.59.”When I saw the 50.58 and the 50.59 and I saw the ‘1′ next to my name, that’s when I sort of let my roar out,” Phelps said.As Cavic reached for the wall, Phelps gambled with one more stroke.”I actually thought when I did take that half stroke, I thought I had lost the race right there, but I guess that was the difference in the end,” said Phelps, who added he didn’t realize how close it was.

It was the only one of Phelps’s five individual events in Beijing in which he both started and finished without the world record, which still belongs to fourth-placed compatriot Ian Crocker.With his seventh gold medal, Phelps matched the record that US swimmer Spitz established with seven victories at the Munich Olympics in 1972, and will have a chance to break the mark when he swims the 4×100m medley relay on Sunday. Phelps has won gold here in the 100m and 200m butterfly, 200m and 400m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 4×100m freestyle relay and 4×200m freestyle relay.Phelps, who won six gold medals in Athens, had already moved ahead of Spitz on one score here. American swimmer Michael Phelps won his fifth gold medal in the Beijing Olympics as the United States smashed the world record to easily win the 4×200 metres freestyle relay in a time of 6:58.56 seconds on Wednesday. Phelps swam the lead-off leg in a time of 1:43.31 to give his team a handsome lead which team-mates Ryan Lochte, Rickey Berens and Peter Vanderkaay were never in danger of losing.Before this Michael Phelps won his fourth gold medal in the men’s 200 metres butterfly in world record time at Beijing’s Water Cube on Wednesday. Phelps touched in 1:52.03, Hungarian Laszlo Cseh took the silver medal and Japan’s Takeshi Matsuda the bronze as the American bettered his previous world record time, set at the world championships in Melbourne last year, by 0.06 seconds.

As all we know that Phelps, who won six golds in Athens four years ago,now his total score is 11 gold medals and he became the most successful Olympian of all time. Each of his five medals in Beijing have come in world best times and he is within reach of Spitz’s record of seven golds in one games. Each of Spitz’s 1972 golds came in record times.In his fifth swimming race Phelps facing some problem with his goggles and said he had been disturbed by a problem with his goggles and was typically nonchalant about his result.He also added that “My goggles filled up with water all the time and I had difficulty seeing the walls,” he said. “I wanted a world record, I wanted a 1.51 or better but under the circumstances, it’s not a bad result.”

Its really a sad day after one of the brightest day of Indian history.India’s next hope for the medal, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore fails to qualify for the final round of shooting range.For the final round their are 19 contenders in which only six of them can qualify for the finals,in this Rajyavardhan secured 15th rank overall and disqualified from the final.To increase the moral confidence of Rajyavardhan,indian olympics star Abhinav Bindra was present but his presence was of no help as Rathore struggled to read targets and shot 131, which was just not enough to reach the business end of the event to stay in medal contention.

After disqualifying from final Rathore said “I did not read the targets too well and paid the price. I worked hard for the last four years but things just did not go my way.I have not been in the best of form of late but I think my score was enough to reach the final at least. It was a difficult day but I shot well, in fact there were quite a few brilliant shots“.From the starting of the round it is seen that Rathore facing some difficulty in in reading the target.Rathore feels very rued for his not qualifying for the finals and said I was in no way affected by an pressure. To be honest, pressure rather helped me stay focused. Last two months I did not score very high but I think I should have at least made it to the finals.
Now after this billion indian hope dies.Now we all pray to god for the best performance, for the rest of indians players in Olympics 2008, so that Indians once again feel proud.

Abhinav Bindra was born on 28th september in Dehradun but now he lives in Chandigarh with his family.Abhinav belongs to a affluent sikh family and his parents are Dr A.S Bindra and Babli Bindra.From his childhood Abhinav was crazy about shooting and his main aim to became a top shooter in his category(10 m).After that Bindra never look backward and became the youngest Indian participant at the 2000 olympics.In the next year Bindra made a world record of scoring 597/600 in 2001 Munich World Cup and won bronze medal for his country.This was just starting after that in the next consecutive year he won the gold medal in Manchester Common wealth games and made one more time Indians to feel proudly.In year 2006 Bindra broke the world record in Athens Olympics but still failed to won the medal.Now the year 2008 came and Bindra creates the history in India and became the first individual from India to won the gold medal in Olympics.If we look at his achievements then Abhinav Bindra was awarded with Arjuna Award in year 2000 and with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2001.
